It's time To Winterize Your Vehicle - 10 Winterization Tips

Winterize Your Car

It's the season to be jolly and get your car ready for the freezing season. If you are not ready for winter you may experience some unfortunate experiences with your ride this winter. So here are some great winterization tips to keep your car running all winter long.

  1. Check all fluids - This includes engine, transmission, power steering, brake fluids, windshield fluid levels and of course antifreeze levels. If you have straight water inside of your radiator you could experience freezing and cracking of your radiator.
  2. Inspect all of your belts and hoses for wear - cracking, missing chunks or completely broken, frayed or brittleness.
  3. Inspect the battery fluid levels - look for signs of corrosion, ensure tight and clean connections.
  4. Inspect your brake system annually for signs of mechanical failure. Be sure to inspect brake hoses, linings on the pads and shoes, fluid levels and condition.
  5. Check your exhaust system for weak points and leaks. Look for broken hangers or other supports. Exhaust leaks can be dangerous if left undetected.
  6. Get a tune up to ensure that your car runs at it's peak performance during these cold months. This helps reduce emissions, also you will obtain peak performance and fuel efficiency with your vehicle running in tip top shape.
  7. Inspect your heating and cooling system to ensure you stay warm all winter long. Also this will help your defroster work properly which will ensure you can see while you are driving during the snow and rain.
  8. Inspect your steering and suspension system to be able to properly handle the road and any adverse road conditions during the winter. Having low tire pressure or loose steering components can cause you to lose control of your vehicle.
  9. Inspect your tires for proper inflation and safe tread levels. Look for signs of uneven wear or damage to the tire, side walls and it's tread areas.
  10. Check all of your windshield wipers to ensure they clear your windshield and your rear-windshield correctly and clearly; and that all of your headlights, turn-signals, brake and tail lights work. Be sure to replace worn out wipers and non working light bulbs to be able to see and to be seen on these dangerous roads.

Be sure either you or your car care technician inspect these items for the winter months ahead are full of unexpected surprises. let's reduce the chances of us being one of them. Also remember to keep your car clean and free of snow, dirt and debris by using a quality car cover from CarCovers.com
