The Test Bench · grade vs grade
Weatherproof Lite vs Weatherproof Max vs Platinum vs Satin ProtectWhich car cover should you actually buy?
One head-to-head, four grades, no gate: the winner, the runner-up, and the two the category won’t sit next to. Real numbers where we have them; a loud flag where we don’t.
For a car that lives outside through real weather, the Platinum Shield is the cover to buy: a fleece-lined, breathable 300D polyester shell. But it isn’t the automatic winner: in a mild climate or pure high sun the Weatherproof Max, also UV-treated and fleece-lined, is the better value at $30 less, and for a garage-kept show car the AllGuard Satin Protect beats both outdoor grades. Buy the job, not the tier.
Two of the four win real scenarios below. We say exactly where, on purpose.

Every cover includes the AllGuard Protection Warranty. How the Protection Warranty works
Read it straight: every grade shares the same guaranteed fit, elastic front and rear hems, reinforced side grommets and the AllGuard Protection Warranty. What changes is the outer fabric, the fleece (Weatherproof Max, Platinum and AllGuard Satin Protect) and Platinum’s breathable fabric. Buy the weather your car actually meets.

promise, the same on every grade.

How this comparison was made
Our specs & prices
Every grade’s price on this page renders from a single CarCovers product catalog, the same source the product pages read, so the figures here cannot drift from what you pay at checkout.
Our return data
The fit figures (that 48% of cover returns are a fit problem, and guided sizing cuts returns to 0.5% versus 2.4% for self-measured) come from CarCovers’ own returns analysis. Every grade includes the AllGuard Protection Warranty; returns are 30-day.

Straight answers
The questions behind the search.
Still deciding between two grades?
A cover expert will match the grade to how your car actually lives: no upselling, just the right build for your climate and your paint.
Talk to a cover expertIs the Platinum really worth it over the Weatherproof Max?
Only if your car faces real weather. Both grades are fleece-lined, UV-treated and water-resistant. The Platinum's shell is silver 300D polyester with a polyurethane coating, and it is breathable. Both come with the AllGuard Protection Warranty. If the car sits in strong sun, snow or salt air, or you keep cars a long time, it's the buy. In a mild climate on a daily driver, the Weatherproof Max is the better value at $30 less.
What's the actual difference between the Weatherproof Max and the Platinum?
Both are fleece-lined, UV-treated and water-resistant. The Platinum's shell is silver 300D polyester with a polyurethane coating. It is also breathable. Both come with the AllGuard Protection Warranty, so the choice is about the build. Choose the Platinum for a car that lives outside year-round, and the Weatherproof Max when the weather is milder and the $30 matters.
Do I need any outdoor grade if I park in a garage?
No, and we'll say so. For a garage-kept car the AllGuard Satin Protect beats every outdoor grade: it's a show-finish drape that guards clear coat against dust and door dings, without paying for an outdoor build the car will never need.
Is the cheapest cover a false economy?
It depends on the job. The Weatherproof Lite is honest value for a car that's outside now and then and faces mild weather. It becomes a false economy the moment you ask it to handle snow load, hard UV or salt air; that's what the higher grades are built for. Match the grade to the weather, not to the price.
Does the fit guarantee apply to every grade?
Yes. All four grades are matched to your vehicle and carry the same promise: if we don't get it right, we'll make it right, on top of 30-day returns and the AllGuard Protection Warranty. Fit drives 48% of our cover returns, so it's the one thing we guarantee outright.
